The terroir of Villa Le Corti in the Chianti Classico area

Villa Le Corti, wine estate in Chianti Classico

Villa Le Corti is the winery owned by the Corsini family since 1363. It is placed in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, 20 km south of Florence, and includes 50 hectares of vineyards and 13,000 olive trees. The company produces nine wine labels and two oil labels (EVO oil and DOP oil).

In addition to this production, the estate of Principe Corsini offers many experiences to live: visits and tastings in the historic winery and Enoteca Le Corti, or online with the box “Smart tasting” available in the online Shop.
Villa Le Corti offers the possibility to taste the Tuscan menu in its Osteria. But it is even possible to relax in the farmhouses Le Gugliaie and Lo Sperone. The villa is also a location for weddings and events.

The terroir of San Casciano in Val di Pesa

San Casciano is the northernmost municipality within the denomination of Chianti Classico, the area defined by Cosimo III Medici between Florence and Siena over 300 years ago.

This area enjoys a cool climate, with temperature ranges between day and night accompanied by ventilation from the coast. These conditions create a healthy development of the grapes and allow the harvest to begin ten days earlier than in other areas of Chianti Classico.

San Casciano Classico association tells the territory

Another peculiar element of the San Casciano in Val di Pesa terroir is the conformation of the soil, composed of sediments and river pebbles. These elements give wines aromatic intensity, good body, and elegance.

In addition, the soils guarantee good water availability, helping the vineyards to overcome even the hottest and driest vintages, which in recent years are increasingly frequent in Tuscany. The wine producers in the area created San Casciano Classico: the association tells the territory through its wine.

The characteristics of Villa Le Corti terroir

Villa Le Corti is in the heart of the Chianti Classico area. The area is hilly, with vineyards and olive groves located between 250 and 350 meters above sea level.
The soils are mainly clay with limestone and sand, while the soil is rich in the skeleton thanks to the round pebbles of river origin and stones of galestro and alberese.

The cool climate ensures a good temperature range between the day and the night hours. Winters are cold but not rigid, and summers are hot but not torrid.
Elegance, freshness, and drinkability: these are the characteristics of Villa Le Corti wines.

Sangiovese: the main grape variety of Villa Le Corti terroir

Sangiovese is one of the main cultivated grapes in Tuscany and at Villa Le Corti. Within the territory of Chianti Classico, Sangiovese has adapted to the different areas, developing unique characteristics depending on the terroir.
Sangiovese of Villa Le Corti is characterized by elegant tannins, present but never too invasive.

In the specific case of Fico Wine, to enhance the characteristics of Sangiovese, the grapes are no longer pressed. The grapes are transported whole in the fermentation tanks to develop less heat and bring out the aromatic compounds of the grapes.

EVO and DOP oil of Villa Le Corti

In addition to wine, the history of San Casciano is linked to the production of Extra virgin olive oil. In the territory, the oldest oil production is in Villa Le Corti, where the Corsini family has been producing it since 1363. The property has over 13,000 olive trees, where the main cultivars are Moraiolo, Frantoio, Leccino, and Pendolino.

The olives harvest is manual, and we press them within six hours. These processes allow us to obtain oils for condiments and to accompany the great classics of our kitchen. The current production includes an  extra virgine olive oil Le Corti, DOP oil of Chianti Classico and two organic monovarietal of DOP oil Frantoio Le Corti e DOP oil Moraiolo Le Corti.
