Interview with Duccio Corsini, owner of Villa Le Corti

The Corsini family and the production of Chianti Classico wine and oil

Duccio Corsini is the owner of Villa Le Corti in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, in the heart of Chianti Classico, and Tenuta Marsiliana in Manciano, in Maremma. Both estates have been owned by the Corsini family for centuries. Since 1992, Duccio Corsini and his wife Clotilde Trentinaglia de Daverio have managed all the activities directly.

Don Duccio, in particular, follows with passion and dedication also many of the stages of processing and production of grapes and olives, assisted by a team of professionals now very close.

When did you start working in the agricultural sector?

“I have been working at Villa Le Corti since 1992. In San Casciano Val di Pesa, the northernmost municipality within the Chianti Classico area, we produce wine and extra virgin olive oil. Over time we have also developed other side activities such as hospitality, tastings, and guided tours to our cellars.

Villa Le Corti is a national monument protected by law. Under the Villa, there are three floors of the cellar. Before the covid pandemic, we welcomed many visitors inside.
In 1996, together with my sister Sabina, after various ampelographic studies, we started to produce wine in Marsiliana. And I would say it was a success”.

What is the philosophy of production, and what distinguishes you from other producers?

“Villa Le Corti was purchased in 1363 by my family, the Corsini’s family, whose coat of arms is represented on the Trevi Fountain, in Rome. In the Chianti Classico area, there are many wine producers. So, if you want to improve, you need to enhance your distinctive aspects.

Expressing the uniqueness and character of our territory is the philosophy that inspired our production during almost 30 harvests.
The same philosophy was followed in the production of Tenuta Marsiliana wines, too”.

What are the plans for the future of Principe Corsini?

“We discovered the future in 2020, the year of the pandemic. Not being able to organize events, we changed the way to address the final consumer and sell our wine. Not a substitution, but the integration to traditional sales methods.
The pandemic also made us understand the importance of our daily choices. The goal of many people today is to know the origin of products, in our case wine and oil.

Since 2020, in the search for biodiversity and organic farming at Villa Le Corti, we have also introduced the cultivation of spelt, from which we produce Dicocco Organic Spelt and Dicocco Organic Pearl Spelt“.
