Principe Corsini’s sustainable agricultural practices

Principe Corsini’s commitment to environmental protection

The concept of sustainability is linked to environmental protection, but in recent years has experienced a profound evolution. Starting from a vision centered on the ecological dimension only, this concept has come to include economic, social, and ethical issues.

A sustainable approach to agriculture stems from the awareness that natural resources are not infinite and therefore must be preserved with care. The goal is to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own.

The production of wine and oil from sustainable agriculture

Sustainable production of wine and oil means respecting the environment and seasonality. It is important to direct farming choices towards the natural maintenance of fertility and balance of the soil. In our company, we believe in this principle and, for this reason, we have started production practices that combine the preservation of the territory with the search for wine and olive oil excellence.

In 2012 we started the conversion of crops to the organic regime, obtaining the organic certification starting from 2015. To prevent and combat parasitic infections, we use contact products that are not absorbed by plants, unlike synthetic products used in conventional agriculture.

Agricultural practices for maintaining biodiversity

In full respect of the soil, we use fertilizers with a low intake of nitrites and nitrates, as well as limited quantities of copper and sulfur for treatments. The result of these agricultural practices are wines and olive oils obtained in total respect of the land, unique organoleptic properties.

For the maintenance of biodiversity, we plant green manure in the vineyards of Villa Le Corti. The aim is to improve soil fertility, organic matter content, structure, and porosity. In addition, green manure helps to slow soil erosion and to bring micro-elements to the surface.

The production of organic spelt at Villa Le Corti

In 2020, we introduced the cultivation of organic Spelt at Principe Corsini. This product has natural adaptability to hardly productive land, and it represents a sustainable choice on the ecological level.

Spelt is a rustic and very resistant cereal with low environmental impact. It can survive hot summers with rainwater alone. Thanks to the positive results, we decided to transform part of the harvest into Pearl Spelt and Spelt Flour.

The choice of sustainable packaging

We give priority to local suppliers to buy the materials we use in our vineyards and olive groves. Moreover, we buy products that have biodegradable or recyclable packaging. We always pay attention to the proper waste disposal, especially during the harvest and olive picking, when the activities involve more workers than usual.

For us at Principe Corsini, sustainability corresponds to a lifestyle in every area of our daily lives. Both in farming and cellar practices, the goal of our team is to enhance the potential of the terroir in the most respectful way possible.
