The Corsinis in Italian and European History

Since 2014, the 10 rooms of Villa Le Corti that house the Corsini Archive are literally covered in documents. The result is an eight-century-long journey through the history of the Corsini family, whose prestigious roles held by many of its members make it an indispensable source for the study of the history, art, and economy of our country.

The archive documents the history of Italy and Europe, as the Corsinis cultivated and maintained strong ties over time with families such as the Medici, the Habsburg-Lorraine, the Bonapartes, and many others.

The Prestige of the Corsini Family

Over the course of more than 800 years of history, the Corsinis, in addition to running businesses, held public and diplomatic positions in Tuscany, Italy, and at various European courts, ensuring power and prestige for their descendants. All of this is evidenced in the family, administrative, diplomatic, and commercial correspondence, as well as in the thousands of administrative and asset files.

Digitized inventory of the Corsini archive

The archive’s documents can be studied for historical, artistic, genealogical, economic, social, political, and territorial research, thanks to the ongoing creation of a digital inventory.
The archive also preserves copies of all the research conducted in the archive, both in the form of university theses and articles and books published over the last 60 years.

Photographs and Ancient Maps

The photographic section of the Corsini Archive is also very rich, providing concrete evidence of the customs and traditions of previous centuries. Through images of people, places, and landscapes, one can more accurately reconstruct the habits, work, and lifestyles of the past. The maps, depicting the ancient estates and homes of sharecroppers and farmers, help us imagine the different relationships between man and the natural environment.
