The largest tasting of Chianti Classico took place on February 17 and 18 2020 at Stazione Leopolda in Florence. Almost 200 producers attended the event and over 740 wine labels were available for tasting. The kermesse presented a preview of the latest vintages of Chianti Classico in all of its types: Annata, Riserva and Gran Selezione, together with the DOP Chianti Classico 2019 Oil.
At the event we were present with 5 different labels, the expression of our vineyards in San Casciano in Val di Pesa: Le Corti 2016 Chianti Classico Vintage DOCG produced with Sangiovese grapes and in a small part Colorino; Cortevecchia 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG; Don Tommaso 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG, awarded in Rome in October 2019 and included in the Ais Vitae 2020 Guide with the maximum score, ZAC 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG, Per Filo 2018 IGT Toscana Rosso produced from biodynamic agriculture.
This prestigious event dedicated to Chianti Classico was an excellent opportunity to present the new Zac 2016 Gran Selezione to the public, our 100% Sangiovese dedicated to Aunt Anna Corsini. The first harvest for this wine dates back to 2008. In 2016 we made the move to Gran Selezione to honour the 300 years since the Grand Ducal edict of 1716, the document that delimits Chianti Classico for the first time in the modern era.
At the Leopolda station, in front of wine professionals and many wine lovers, the second harvest of Per Filo 2018 was also presented. This is our biodynamic wine born in 2017 as part of the Fico Wine project and dedicated to Filippo Corsini.
Our two Gran Selezione productions were presented at the event. Don Tommaso, our “classic” Gran Selezione, is made with 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot. This wine ages tonneaux, in mainly used, of 500 and 700 litres, for 16 months. Then at least 14 months in bottle.
Zac, on the other hand, is our company Cru made from 100% Sangiovese grapes from Le Gugliaie vineyard. This wine ages for 18 months in mainly used barriques. Then follow at least 12 months in bottle.
