Chianti Classico Gran Selezione from Villa Le Corti

From May 2020, ZAC 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione and Don Tommaso 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG are available on the Shop of Principe Corsini.

These wines are produced, with an organic and vegan regime, at Villa Le Corti on the hills of San Casciano in Val di Pesa. An uncontaminated territory where Sangiovese produces different Chianti Classico labels.

Zac 2016, a pure Sangiovese

Zac 2016 represents the last entry into the Principe Corsini Chianti Classico Gran Selezione family. The grapes used to produce it come from Gugliaie vineyard and this red wine is the new challenge of the company.

The first harvest dates back to 2008. Until 2015, Zac was in the category of Tuscan IGT, among the great bottles called Super Tuscan. Since 2016, however, this red wine of Principe Corsini gets the transition from IGT to Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, a certificate of great quality.

James Suckling awards Zac 2016 with a score of 97 points

Zac 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione was tasted by James Suckling, one of the most famous wine critics in the world, and got the excellent score of 97/100. A truly exceptional result.

This young wine, with a strong character, is dedicated to Zia Anna Corsini, sister of Prince Tommaso Corsini. The woman was much loved by her grandchildren, and her nickname was Zac. In this way was born the idea of paying homage to an extraordinary woman, with a special wine.

How to taste Zac 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

The grapes of Zac are destemmed and put in open-air tanks with temperature control system; total day of the fermentation process is 16 days with a max temperature of 28 °C. The grapes are inoculated with selected indigenous yeasts. The wine ages 18 months mainly in used barrique. A 12-month ageing period in bottle follows.

Thi red wine has a dynamic rhythmic progression between red fruit, tobacco and pepper. To taste it at its best, accompany it to a plate of ravioli with mallard ragù.

Don Tommaso 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG

Don Tommaso is the other Gran Selezione label of Villa Le Corti. This wine, composed of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot grapes, is made in full compliance with the Chianti Classico disciplinary and is a tribute to Prince Tommaso, ancestor of the Corsini dynasty.

The grapes are grown organically in the best vineyards of Villa Le Corti. Don Tommaso is a wine of contemporary style but also deeply linked to its territory.

Don Tommaso in the Guide Vitae 2020 by AIS with the maximum score

This red wine, with a wide, soft and intense drink, is included in the Guide Vitae 2020 by AIS. In October 2019, within an event of international importance, was awarded in Rome with the “4 Viti” awards, which represent the highest quality recognized by AIS sommeliers for Italian wines.

Don Tommaso also received 96/100 points from James Suckling. A prestigious award, which adds to the favor of the public that this Chianti Classico Gran Selezione has always met.

An elegant and intense Chianti Classico

The fermentation of this wine provide 18 days for Sangiovese grapes and 16 days for Merlot, at a max temperature of 28° C. Then, 16 months mainly in tonneaux of 500 and 700 lt and at least 14 months in bottle.

The aromatic profile of this red wine contains notes of blueberry and black cherries, lavender and mulberry with hints of caramel and vanilla berry. To enjoy it at best, the advice is to accompany it with rabbit and baked potatoes.
