Description

Don Tommaso Chianti Classico, “Gran Selezione” starting from 2010, shows the natural potential of a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot.

It is a contemporary-style wine, solidly anchored to the territory. The fruit is deep and complex, it is a soft, intense, and big wine to drink.

An Exceptional Vintage: the climatic conditions of the 2015 vintage were ideal for viticulture, with a cold and rainy winter followed by a mild spring and a warm, dry summer, allowing for optimal grape ripening. Numerous wine guides have praised the depth and concentration of the 2015 wines, thanks to the climate conditions they have had remarkable aging potential, making it a highly appreciated vintage among experts and collectors.

Winemaking and Aging

Winemaking

It is a selection of the best Sangiovese and Merlot grapes of the company. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks and is 18 days for Sangiovese and 16 days for Merlot.

Aging

16 months mainly in 500 and 700 liter tonneaux. Bottle aging of at least 14 months.

Optimal Storage in our Cellars

Thanks to the optimal temperature and humidity for its preservation, Don Tommaso 2015 has preserved all its organoleptic qualities. Over the years, it has undergone an aging process that has produced numerous quaternary, balsamic, and mineral aromas. Today, this wine is ready to be enjoyed at its full potential.

Tasting notes

From the best Sangiovese and Merlot vineyards of the Corsini family estate in the hills of San Casciano in Chianti Classico. This is where the Gran Selezione Don Tommaso was born, in an exceptional vintage, 2015. A purple wine with ruby highlights, it has a complexity that reveals itself with grace and compelling transport. Notes of pepper accentuate violets and black and red berries, including blueberry, blackcurrant and cassis, shaded by licorice, caramel and cocoa. The intensity and elegance of the matter are expressed in a round and fruity body, to which the spicy tannins lend a crisp definition, while the finish relaxes with balsamic notes of myrtle, endowed with a fine savoriness.

Pairing

To be paired with stewed or cooked dishes or other long-cooked meat preparations, aged cheeses, pigeon confit with beetroot compote, venison with juniper, or duck breast lacquered with honey and mustard, stewed duck, Florentine trippa, beef fillet with sour cherries, braised lamb chops with thyme and a sprinkling of cocoa powder, escargot à la Bourguignonne, risotto with glazed quail and “Aceto Tradizionale” vinegar.
