2025 Chianti Classico harvest

2025 Chianti Classico harvest

Quality and grape harvesting in Chianti Classico, 2025

The 2025 harvest at Principe Corsini’s Villa Le Corti in Chianti Classico is now behind us, and the grapes have entered the early stages of vinification — a truly crucial moment for the future of our wines. As every year, closely observing what happened in the vineyard, and what now continues in the cellar, allows us to begin forecasting how the wines from this vintage will express themselves.

In general, grape quality in 2025 is very high. The fruit was harvested in excellent health and at full ripeness, with loosely packed clusters and thicker skins compared to previous years.

Grape varieties harvested at Villa Le Corti

The 2025 harvest at Villa Le Corti began on August 24th with the picking of grapes for the Principe Corsini rosé sparkling wine. Starting September 5th, harvesting began for the estate’s red wines, beginning with Merlot, which, along with Sangiovese, will form the blend of Don Tommaso 2025.

The Colorino and Sangiovese harvest — with Sangiovese, the star grape of Chianti Classico — continued from mid-September through the first week of October. Notably, the Sangiovese destined for our two biodynamic wines, Fico and Per Filo, was harvested on Friday, September 19th and Saturday, September 20th, during our traditional harvest celebration, which has brought together the entire Corsini family and friends of Filippo for the past ten years.

The influence of climate on the 2025 harvest

The 2024–2025 winter was mild, followed by a typical spring with well-distributed rainfall — essential for healthy phenolic ripening. The summer included two brief heat waves, balanced by cool nights and strong diurnal temperature shifts, which are ideal for preserving the grapes’ natural acidity.

Thoughtful canopy management helped prevent sunburn damage to the clusters. The vineyard’s protection against downy and powdery mildew was successful, both during flowering and fruit set. More challenging was controlling Lobesia botrana (grapevine moth), a harmful pest, which we managed using organic integrated pest control methods.

The result? A balanced vintage with healthy grapes and consistent ripening throughout the vineyard.

What’s new for the 2025 harvest from Principe Corsini

The 2025 harvest also marks the return of Sant’Andrea Corsini Chianti Classico Vinsanto, after several years of suspended production due to suboptimal weather conditions.

Following age-old tradition, after harvest the Sangiovese grape clusters were placed to dry in the winery’s fruttaio — a loft space under the roof with natural (non-forced) ventilation. Here, the grapes will dry slowly until mid-December, when they will be pressed. The resulting must will ferment in small wooden casks for an initial period of five years, followed by another five years of aging in the same barrels.

Aromatic profile of Chianti Classico 2025: early impressions

Although yields were lower than in 2024, grape quality was exceptional, with higher sugar levels recorded at harvest.

Even at this early stage — while the wines are still fermenting — we’re already seeing promising aromatic signs: delicate fruit notes typical of Sangiovese, including cherry and raspberry, suggest a wine with brightness and freshness. Subtle floral hints, such as violet, are beginning to emerge, while the spicy and mineral notes are gradually taking shape — a strong indication that the terroir will be clearly expressed in the final wine.

Taste profile of Chianti Classico 2025: what we expect

Initial tastings from the cellar show a wine with good structure and elevated, harmonious acidity — a key factor in overall elegance. The tannins are beginning to take shape, already showing refinement without aggression. These early signs point to a Chianti Classico that, in the coming years, will gain balance and age gracefully.

If these first impressions are confirmed, the Chianti Classico 2025 will be distinguished by freshness, well-integrated acidity, elegant fruit notes, delicate floral undertones, fine tannins, and a balanced structure — with an aromatic complexity that clearly reflects the character of our region.
