The excellent vintage of Cortevecchia 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG

Vintage 2018 of Chianti Classico Riserva

2018 is a top year for Chianti Classico. The harvest of red berried grapes, used for wines with this denomination, began in mid-September and ended in mid-October. To determine the excellent quality of the grapes were the highest temperatures of the seasonal average in spring and summer with scattered rains.

The veraison began in the second half of July and continued slowly in August. Thanks to a temperature range between day and night, the sunny days of September have also developed a correct phenolic and aromatic ripening of the grapes.

Cortevecchia 2018, a thoroughbred wine from the hills of Chianti Classico

Cortevecchia 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG has a pulsating profile of unmistakable aromas of violet, black and red berries, balsamic herbs, and roots with nuances of cocoa.

The mouthfeel has character and persistence, a precise tannic vein with a touch of anise on the clear presence of the fruit, which makes it almost resinous with notes of dry mint in the extension. The recommended pairings for this red are dishes such as steak or other grilled meats, game first courses, and aged cow’s cheese.

Vinification and aging of Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG

At Villa Le Corti, the harvest is manual and includes the selection of the best grapes. Later, the vinification begins.
The fermentation takes place in open truncated steel tanks with the automatic tumbler. During this phase, we use only selected indigenous yeasts.

Throughout the process, which lasts 14 days, the temperature is still at 26º C. In the next phase, the wine is aged in oak barrels of 27 hectoliters for about 16/20 months, followed by a further period of aging in the bottle, at least six months.

The vegan and organic Chianti Classico of San Casciano

Cortevecchia Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG is produced with Sangiovese (95%) and Colorino (5%) grapes cultivated following an organic farming regime. The vineyards of Villa Le Corti are part of the Principe Corsini estate in the municipality of San Casciano in Val di Pesa. This territory is the northernmost municipality within the Chianti Classico appellation.

In addition to being organic, this wine has also obtained vegan certification. For the production of Cortevecchia, we use no animal derivatives at any stage of production, such as in clarification and packaging.
